The 2023 Street and Utility Improvements Project is Postponed Until 2024

The City opened bids for this project on February 8^th, 2023. Five bids were received, with the lowest responsive bid being $2,630,326. This exceeded the budgeted amount for the project for 2023. The City Council considered whether to award or reject the bids for the project at their March 30^th, 2023, City Council meeting. At the meeting they decided to reject the bids, with the plan to rebid the project for construction in 2024. This provides the City the opportunity to adjust the budget appropriately to ensure funds are available to complete the project.

Additionally, discussion was had to include reconstruction of Birch Bluff Road and Pleasant Avenue with the Brentwood Avenue neighborhood for reconstruction in 2024. This may provide a benefit to the City via economies of scale.

The City is focused on reconstructing and improving aging public infrastructure and maintains its plan to reconstruct the Brentwood Avenue neighborhood. We will continue to communicate with residents regarding the proposed project schedule for 2024.
