General Zoning Information: Setbacks
Setbacks depend on location in city and zoning district. Generally speaking, the principal structure setbacks are listed below, but please review the full zoning code for all information.
R1-A, Single Family Residential District
Principal Structure Setbacks
Front Yard. Not less than fifty (50) feet.
Side Yards.
1. Interior Lots. Not less than eight (8) feet.
2. Corner Lots. Not less than eight (8) feet on the interior side yard, nor less than fifty (50) feet on the side yard abutting a public right-of-way not a fire lane and not less than eight (8) feet on the side yard abutting a fire lane.
Rear Yard. Not less than twenty-five (25) feet.
Accessory Structure Setbacks
Front Yard. Not less than fifty (50) feet.
Side Yard. Eight (8) feet.
Rear Yard. Eight (8) feet.
Other Buildings. Six (6) feet.
R1-B, Single Family Residential District
Principal Structure Setbacks
Front Yard. Not less than forty (40) feet. For shoreland lots, the setback shall be as specified in Section 1070, the Shoreland District.
Side Yards.
1. Interior Lots. Not less than eight (8) feet.
2.Corner Lots. Not less than eight (8) feet on the interior side yard, nor less than forty (40) feet on the side yard abutting a public right-of-way not a fire lane and not less than eight (8) feet on the side yard abutting a fire lane.
Rear Yard. Not less than twenty (20) feet.
Accessory Structure Setbacks
Front Yard. Not less than forty (40) feet or as specified in Section 1070, the Shoreland District.
Side Yard. Eight (8) feet.
Rear Yard. Eight (8) feet.
Other Buildings. Six (6) feet.
R-2A, Two Family/Townhouse District
Principal Structure Setbacks
Front Yard. Not less than fifty (50) feet.
Side Yards.
1. Interior Lots. Not less than eight (8) feet.
2. Corner Lots. Not less than fifteen (15) feet on the interior side yard, nor less than forty (40) feet on the side yard abutting a public right-of-way not a fire lane and not less than eight (8) feet on the side yard abutting a fire lane.
Rear Yard. Not less than twenty-five (25) feet.

Front Yard. Not less than fifty (50) feet.
Side Yard. Eight (8) feet.

R-3, Medium Density Residential District

Front Yard. Not less than thirty (30) feet. For shoreland lots, the setback shall be as specified in Section 1070, the Shoreland District.

2. Corner Lots. Not less than eight (8) feet on the interior side yard, nor less than thirty (30) feet on the side yard abutting a public right-of-way not a fire lane and not less than eight (8) feet on the side abutting a fire lane.
Rear Yard. Not less than fifteen (15) feet.
Accessory Structure Setbacks
Front Yard. Not less than thirty (30) feet or as specified in Section 1070, the Shoreland District.
Side Yard. Eight (8) feet.
Rear Yard. Eight (8) feet.
